Akshara has more than 500 students from 1st grade to University, studying in various streams from vocational courses to professional degrees within the country and abroad.
34 students have appeared for 10th grade exam this year.
15 students currently attend UWC schools worldwide. 12 students have graduated from school and attended university abroad.
The post-10th drop-out rate for girls has plunged from 80% to 20% since Akshara started working in the villages.
With Akshara support, Bhadas village has students attending 12th grade for the first time in memory!
80% of Akshara boys take up professional or vocational course.
5 community centres and libraries set up/re-activated in Khubavali, Asadae, Shileshwar, Gawdevari, Bhadas.
6 Akshara girls are in vocational courses and 14 are currently working in their field of study.
The highest success rate in the 10th std exam in the region before Akshara was 67.8% in 2001 (lowest was 20%, in 1999). Post-Akshara, the highest was 100% in 2009. It has never been below 75% since Akshara began work here.
Solar lamps have been set up in 20 homes and 5 community centres (50 lamps and counting…)
500 women and supporters took a procession to Paud on International Womens’ Day 2014 to raise awareness on women’s issues.
